Job Title – NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Medical Oncology

Grade – ST3

Anticipated number of posts: 1 post (Please note: there is 1 post available in either Medical Oncology or Clinical Oncology)

Expected start date – August 2017

The post will be based at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Addenbrooke’s Hospital. It provides an exciting balance of clinical and research training and carries an academic training number – NTN(A). The Academic Clinical Fellowship will allow the successful candidate to spend 75% of their time in clinical training and 25% of their time in research.

The clinical training comprises 6-monthly blocks covering all essential curriculum requirements with participation in the out of hours on-call rota. The fellow will take part in the grand round and the department's varied seminar programme. The research training is as follows:

Year 1: 2 days per week concentrating on 1) clinical research methodology including developing clinical protocols and guiding them through the ethics and regulatory systems and 2) visits to several laboratory groups to choose 2 groups with which to spend 3-month blocks in years 2 and 3.

Years 2 and 3: One 3-month block per year in 2 laboratories chosen in year 1. The fellow will gain experience of research methodologies, results and their analysis and discussion in laboratory meetings. During this period the fellow will choose a project for a higher degree and submit a competitive grant application, together with their prospective supervisor.

The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and/or programme has the required educational and dean’s approval.

Eligibility Criteria for recruitment to Specialty Training 2017 – Immigration requirements

You are eligible to be considered for ACF training in Round 1 if:

  • You are a UK or EEA national
  • You are a non-UK or non-EEA national and your immigration status allows you to work without restriction in the UK. For example, if you have Tier 1 or dependent status, and no restriction against working as a doctor or dentist in training
  • You are a non-UK or non-EEA national, you graduated from a UK medical or dental school, your immigration status currently entitles you to work in the Foundation Programme and where you would have previously been eligible for Tier 1 (PSW). You will need to apply for Tier 2 sponsorship, but you will be exempt from the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) in this instance.

Evidence of immigration status should normally consist of a biometric residence card, date stamped passport, and accompanying letter from the Home Office. Please visit their website for more information.
