Job Title - NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Medical Virology with an interest in Infectious Diseases
Grade – ST3
Anticipated number of posts: 1 post available as either a Medical Virologist or as a Medical Virologist with an interest in Infectious Diseases
Please see job description for opportunities for dual training.
Expected start date – August 2017
The Academic Clinical Fellowship will be based at the Public Health England Clinical Microbiology & Public Health Laboratory, (“CMPHL”) and Department of Infectious Diseases, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Addenbrooke’s Hospital. This post will provide excellent opportunities for clinical and research training in an outstanding environment, and carries an academic training number, NTN (A). The successful candidate will spend 75% of their time in clinical training and 25% of their time in research.
Cambridge has a strong track record in Virology and Infectious Diseases research with a number of groups working on basic science and clinical studies within the Department of Medicine or Pathology as well as other on-campus research institutions, e.g. the Cambridge Institute of Medical Research (details can be found in the Job Description). Within CMPHL, there are active R&D activities and established collaborative research projects with academic virologists.
It is anticipated that the research time (25%) would be taken as a three-month block every year (for 3 years); this would enable the trainee to spend dedicated time in generating pilot research data with a view to developing their own PhD research proposal under academic supervision. The ACF would be strongly encouraged to apply for prizes, grants, scholarships and fellowships as well as to attend national and international meetings.
The ACF would spend their time on clinical training within CMPHL and Department of Infectious diseases at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and/or programme has the required educational and dean’s approval.
