An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic children’s occupational therapist to further develop their skills in the area of physical and neurological impairment and/or complex needs. The post is based in the Brentwood /Basildon Integrated Children`s Therapy Team, and is part of the well-established specialist children`s OT team working across the south west Essex area.

The successful OT will have experience in the assessment, treatment and support of children with physical and neurological impairment and complex needs; including a working knowledge of the main treatment approaches and specialist equipment that may be needed.

The post holder will demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, current research and best evidence based practice in children`s OT. They will be highly motivated to further develop skills in working within their specialty; and to contribute to service development and the training and development of colleagues and students.

The post holder will thrive on working as part of a multi professional team and will demonstrate excellent communication skills.

The children`s OT service is a large and supportive professional team committed to providing excellent opportunities for clinical development and continuous learning.

The main responsibilities of the post:
1. To work autonomously as an advanced specialist children’s OT within a specialist team for children who have physical and neurological impairment and/or complex needs.
2. To provide a very high standard of assessment and contribute to the diagnostic process, and based upon clinical findings, develop and implement an individualised intervention programme in conjunction with the child and family/carers referred to the service. To provide specialist advice to multi-disciplinary team, carers and other agencies.
3. To work collaboratively with family/carers and all agencies involved in the child’s care, encompassing all private and public sectors, in order to provide the highest level of care using best practice principles to maximise the child’s level of function in accordance with trust and government recommendations.
4. To supervise students, technicians, OT assistants and junior OT staff

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement – Essex (Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock localities only)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £961 to a maximum of £1,665).
