Antenatal and Newborn Screening Midwife - Band 7 - 375 hours per week - Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical midwife join the midwifery team at West Suffolk Hospital.

West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is responsible for providing care to approximately 2,700 women during their childbirth experience. Offering both choice of lead professional and place of birth at home, on our co-located midwife led birthing unit or multi-professional labour suite. We pride ourselves on:

  • We were recently rated as “Good” by the CQC for our services
  • We have achieved BFI Stage 2
  • A normal birth rate currently averaging 689%
  • A combined caesarean section rate of about 20% compared with national rates of 262%
  • Midwifery staffing levels within best practice guidance

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an Antenatal and Newborn Screening Midwife to join the maternity team and are looking for an innovative and inspirational midwife with extensive midwifery experience to ensure the provision of an excellent and caring service to our women.

The Antenatal and Newborn Screening Midwife will manage/oversee the antenatal and newborn screening programmes, FASP, infectious diseases, Haemoglobinopathies and newborn blood spot screening programmes.

The Antenatal and Newborn Screening Midwife will provide specialist advice and support to the service and ensure that the screening programmes meet local and national quality standards.

As part of the role the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Midwife will coordinate local Antenatal and Newborn screening forum and attend regional and when required, national meetings, representing the maternity service.

The successful candidate for this post will be required to apply for a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Disclosure at Enhanced/Standard level.

For Band 1 and Band 2 posts, the cost of the DBS Disclosure will be met by the Trust. However, any employees at Band 1 and Band 2 who leave the Trust within six months of commencing their post will have a £10 administration fee deducted from their final salary. For posts at Band 3 and above, the cost of the Disclosure will be met by the appointed employee and deducted in instalments from their salary over a period of three months. If the employee leaves the Trust within three months of commencing their post, any outstanding payments will be deducted from their final pay.
