The Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust Staffing Bank is currently recruiting for experienced pharmacists to work 375 hours per week; this role is to work as part of team providing pharmaceutical services including dispensary, ward / clinical pharmacy, medicines information and aseptic services. This position is rotational across High Wycombe, Amersham and Stoke Mandeville hospital. This role includes extended hours working arrangements as part of the rotational programme.

This involves:

  • Provision of Clinical Pharmacy services to the division’s wards and departments.
  • Day to day supervision and support of Pharmacy staff
  • Participate in the day to day running of clinical Trials and GCP training.
  • Overseeing the services provided by the directorate, ensuring appropriate skill mix and staffing levels, and that work is allocated appropriately, prioritised, and deadlines met in conjunction with the Lead Pharmacist.
  • Undertaking exhaustive literature searches of computerised medical databases, texts and journals and liaising with the pharmaceutical industry to ensure that reliable and relevant research evidence is available for evaluation.
  • Providing expert advice to junior staff in Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust and healthcare workers.
  • Work closely with clinicians, Pharmacy Formulary team colleagues and CCG Medicines management Team pharmacists to ensure that appropriate arrangements are developed and implemented to demonstrate compliance with NICE Technology Appraisals, locally agreed criteria and local algorithms and guidelines.
  • Perform day to day duties to support the preparation of cytotoxic and aseptic medicines including pre and in process checking, final product checking and releasing. This will include IMPs prepared for clinical trials

This post requires you to work in a busy environment, on wards, in a dispensary or supervising cytotoxic and radiopharmacy medicines in a restricted area. You will be expected to deliver accurate information to medical and nursing staff, and to patients, in an appropriate and sensitive manner, about therapeutic effects, side effects, and potential adverse effects of medicines.

You will be expected to manage situations and actions required in urgent or emergency circumstances and respond to EDC calls out of Pharmacy hours. This will include effectively communicating with medical and nursing staff to solve problems in the best interests of patients as well as to practitioners to ensure administration of medicines is appropriate to the clinical needs of the patient.

You will participate in the provision of ward/clinical pharmacy services on a rotational basis, reviewing prescriptions, communicating effectively with appropriate healthcare professionals to solve patient related medicines management problems, minimising clinical risk, educate patients and carers in all aspects of their drug therapy and medicines management and advising them of any discharge issues.

You must be willing to supervise pharmacy staff and train pre-registration pharmacists and student pharmacy technicians.

The post holder is expected to contribute to the development of pharmaceutical services to the Trust and to promote the highest standards of professional practice, Trust Policies and Procedures, whilst observing principles of clinical governance, and the “Standards of Conduct, Ethics and Performance” issued by the General Pharmaceutical Council.

All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and will need to go through a pre-recruitment registration process in order to join the Staffing Bank; this will include providing full 3 years clinical employment referencing, mandatory training, an enhanced DBS and Occupational Health clearance.
