Bank on call Doctor

Job Description

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice was established in 1979 as an independent registered charity with a Board of Trustees, to provide palliative care services. It’s situated in the leafy surroundings of Selly Park, approximately four miles south of Birmingham city centre. It's located close to University Hospital Birmingham Foundation NHS Trust (UHBFT) and the University of Birmingham.

The Hospice provides care to patients with advanced cancer and other non-malignant terminal diseases. We care for around 1,000 people a year and provide free care to all relatives of patients under our care. Relatives of patients at the Hospice can be close to their loved-ones by staying onsite in our specially commissioned self-contained family flat. We have a Day Hospice facility which is open every Thursday from 10am until 3pm, where patients are invited to attend on alternate weeks for 12 sessions.

To provide essential care for terminally ill patients it costs the Hospice £8m to run annually, a large proportion of this is generated through fundraising and donations. Many hospice patients remain at home during their care where they are supported by our community nurses, and specialist social workers who work in conjunction with GPs, consultants and other medical professionals.
