Job Summary

As a Registered General Nurse within our Healthcare team at HMP Grendon & Springhill, you'll be exposed to a whole new way of working. Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day, you might find yourself working in A&E, drugs, mental health or health promotion. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences.

HMP Grendon is a Category B secure conditions prison for male adults and HMP Springhill is a Category D open prison with a resettlement regime for male adults.

Key Responsibilities

It’s not just the environment that’s varied here, the role is too. You can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to. Across everything you do, you’ll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in the this role you will have:-

• Demonstrable critical thinking skills in clinical decision making
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills
• Experience of key-working and care planning
• Demonstrable critical thinking skills in clinical decision making
• Willing to undertake education/courses relevant to area of practice and service development
• Evidence of updating practice and continued professional development
• Understanding of clinical governance and its relevance to delivering Health Care in a Prison setting


• Registered 1st Level RGN
• Current NMC Registration

Additional Information

This is a Bank contract, working shifts as and when required e.g. covering sickness, holiday etc. The hourly pay rate for this role is £1606 - £2320 depending on experience, per hour plus Quarterly Holiday Pay.
