Care Assistant (Nights)

Job Description

REPORTS TO: Senior Care Assistant and or Home Manager  


To ensure the well being of all service users by maintaining the six broad values, - privacy, dignity, independence, choice, rights and fulfilment.


ï To ensure the correct level of care and assistance is delivered to each service user enabling them to maintain their dignity and independence at all times.

ï To administer residents medications when required to do so 

ï To encourage residents to achieve maximum independence by assisting residents to meet their own needs whenever possible

ï To ensure that all care practices within the home are maintained at the highest level at all times – working to the GSC Councils Code of Practice for S C Workers

ï To report to a senior any incident / activity which may affect the well being, safety or welfare of the service user.


ï To carryout, support and assist any activity as designated by the senior in a timely and effective manner.

ï To ensure that the service user receives the highest of standards of care in respect of physical and personal needs in respect to bathing, dressing and assisting at meal times.

ï To carryout the necessary housekeeping duties ensuring that the home remains clean and homely at all times, this includes the care of linen and service users personal laundry, making of beds and ensuring service users bedrooms are clean and tidy and to assist with any other housekeeping duty that may arise. 

ï To ensure service users emotional and social well being is maintained by actively communicating and listening to the service user needs, and promoting their independence at all times.

ï To promote a caring environment 

ï To ensure all documentation relating to the service user’s care is updated and maintained to the highest of standards.

ï To ensure that attendance to both mandatory and required training courses are met in order that skills, knowledge and competency levels are maintained to carry out the role efficiently and effectively. 

ï To attend all staff meetings and staff supervision sessions as and when required.

ï Ensure the required NVQ training is met in order to carryout the role efficiently and effectively. 

ï To comply with all job related policies, procedures, regulations, and rules including health and safety and welfare of the service user and colleagues.

ï To undertake any other duties, that may arise from time to time.

Job Requirements


ï Level 2 NVQ in Care

ï Food hygiene Cert   


ï Experience of Care Setting 

ï Experience of older people with Dementia/Sensory Loss


ï Understand need for confidentiality

ï Key worker knowledge

ï Awareness of Safeguarding issues

ï Awareness of Equality & Diversity issues

ï Health & Safety

ï Environment


ï Demonstrate a caring manner towards residents 

ï Good communication skills

ï Record keeping skills

ï Moving & handling when trained 

ï Observant to change in residents conclusion they may need reporting

ï Listening 

ï Ability to assist with moving/handling where trained to do so 

ï Ability to prioritise work in a manner sympathetic to resident care needs


ï Be prepared to work towards NVQ level 2

ï Willing to train in moving & Handling

ï Courteous towards all members of staff
