Job Title         :           Health Care Assistant

                       

Reports to     :           Nurse on Duty / Lead Carer

Purpose of Job: Ashley Grange is committed to providing professional, respectful and quality care, whilst maintaining exceptional standards to ensure residents enjoy the highest quality of life.  To deliver high quality care to residents in accordance with current, evidence-based professional practice and company policies. To provide care according to legislative requirements, and relevant regulations under the direction of the Nurse on duty, Deputy Matron or Manager.

Note: In addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such duties as may reasonably be required.

  • Attend to the wishes and comfort, personal appearance and hygiene of residents at all times.  Assist and actively encourage the social care and the well-being of residents.

  • Take and chart observations of residents, including weight, food and liquid intakes/outputs. Perform simple tests of urine. Complete charts and care assistant records as directed.

  • Contribute to the development of new ideas in the nursing care and in respect of stimulation for residents to improve their quality of life.

  • Assist with the reception and orientation of new residents in a reassuring manner.

  • List the residents clothing and other property.  Tidy residents` rooms and cupboards; keep clothing and possessions in order.

  • Prepare food trays and eating areas. Prepare residents for meals and provide assistance to residents with eating as required.

  • Make beds and change bed linen. Dispose of soiled linen in accordance with home procedures. Bag linen for collection.

 

            Ensure that all residents receive Person Centred Care.

Qualifications:

  1. Have a caring compassionate nature.
  2. Be willing to work towards Level 2 in health and social care.
  3. To complete Common Induction Standards.
  4. Ability to work well within a team.
  1. Good level in English and Maths preferred.
  2. Qualification in Health and Social Care.
  3. Able to demonstrate knowledge of what care assistants do, ideally in a nursing home environment.
  4. Ability to observe residents and check: weight and food / liquid intakes and outputs.

Experience:

  • Interest in Care in a Health and Social Care environment.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate resident care and act accordingly if untoward changes occur.
  • Ability to record accurate records.
  • Able to demonstrate empathy and have a caring nature.
  • Ability to communicate and record in English.
  • Ability to motivate and work with a team of staff.

Experience:

  • Experience of supporting elderly /vulnerable people
  • Experience of record keeping using computerized programs.
  • Practical experience of providing high quality care.
  • Awareness of National Minimum Care Standards Act.
  • Awareness of CQC current regulations.
  • Aware of the Professional Health and Social Care Code of Conduct and accountability.
