Casual Registered Nurses (Adult)

Job Description

Are you able to work periodically for the Trust? It may be that you do not wish to pursue regular employment but would be available for short periods, possibly on a part-time/bank basis to help us overcome unforeseen pressures on our wards. We are seeking to recruit qualified nurses to our Bank and we can offer shifts on a flexible basis to suit individual needs, in a variety of specialty areas.

North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust is at a truly exciting time of transformation. Through our Trust Strategy we will achieve the delivery of safe, accessible, high quality and sustainable healthcare services in North Cumbria for the next generation.

The Trust has had to rise to a number of challenges in recent years and is now on a rapid path of improvement. The Trust is committed to the long term development of a culture of continuous improvement as a way of working across all areas of the organisation to respond to changes in health care need and demand. The post holder will be expected to be flexible and open to changes, to identify opportunities for improvement and to play an active role in developing, implementing and sustaining improvements to working practices and patient services.

The Trust is buddied up with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust which is rated in the top 10% of NHS Trusts in the UK for the 5th consecutive year and recently the 4th best performing organisation for Cancer Patient Experience in England. It is an innovative progressive and successful Trust providing a range of acute and community health care services.

A new state-of-the-art hospital has recently opened in Whitehaven, representing the single biggest investment in healthcare in west Cumbria for over 50 years. This is a really important milestone for our organisation which will allow us to further expand our range of local services as we continue to improve safety and quality. The modern hospital is something for our staff and the local community to celebrate.

The Trust provides a comprehensive range of general acute hospital services; we are currently working with the Commissioners to help develop a comprehensive service for the whole of Cumbria, which will work cooperatively with other providers in the area.

These vacancies offer the opportunity to be part of a growing, vibrant team, providing effective health care to the people of north Cumbria and working to bring about dynamic change in the way patients requiring health care are managed in north Cumbria.

Based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, you will be required to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care, operating as a member of the ward multidisciplinary team. You will also contribute as requested by the Ward Manager to the smooth running of the unit and possess relevant skills to work in different nursing disciplines.

Applications are invited from Registered Nurses with active registration, or students who are due to qualify soon. You will have experience of work in a caring environment and be able to deal with a continually changing workload.

The posts offer the opportunity to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty including the Lake District National Park with:

  • highly desirable country and executive properties at realistic prices
  • an excellent standard of education from both state and private schools
  • excellent road (M6) and rail communications, and easy access to major airports
  • Scottish Border region, South West Scotland and the Pennines all easily accessible.

For an informal discussion, please contact Anne Hayton, Bank Staff Manager, tel: (01228) 608122.

In order for your application to be successfully processed we will require references from your current and previous employer(s) which must cover a minimum period of three years.
