Ashley House is a low secure mental health hospital that provides specialist assessments, treatments and rehabilitation for adults with intellectual disabilities, mental health needs, autistic spectrum disorders, including those with varying degrees of challenging behaviours and forensic histories. The Hospital has 46 beds spread across six wards.

The hospital is located in Market Drayton, just 10 miles from Stoke-on-Trent and within one mile from the A53.

We are looking for an effective and confident Charge Nurse to work on our Fairoak Ward (Female Low Secure Ward).

In this role you will be responsible for the nursing leadership and management of the Ward and for the supervision and leadership of the nursing staff, providing an environment where the quality of care is delivered confidently and consistently to a high standard, ensuring all quality standards are met.

As a Charge Nurse (RMN/RNLD) working in our Adult Mental Health Service your key roles and responsibilities will be:

  • To be a visible and supportive presence on the ward by providing strong clinical leadership and have the ability to positively influence the team, hospital culture and clinical practice.
  • To demonstrate initiative and proactive approaches in the management of their staff by ensuring the allocated staffing resources are deployed effectively, by being responsible for the management of the duty rota for the hospital.
  • To include consideration of staff “shift requests”, the timely processing of staff annual leave and other absence related requests, and the effective management of staff annual leave.
  • To clinically lead, and motivate the nurses and support workers in providing high quality patient assessment, care planning, treatment, and interventions.
  • To coach, develop, and mentor staff in achieving and exceeding their individual competency levels through the delivery of effective systems of supervision and appraisal, and ensure comprehensive supervision and appraisal records are kept.
  • To manage the staff effectively, ensuring all required standards of individual performance are met in a fair and consistent manner.
  • To ensure that quality standards relating to patient experience, patient safety, Assessment and Treatment, and Clinical Effectiveness are achieved and maintained.
  • To fulfil First Tier On-Call duties and responsibilities as required.
  • To be an integral member of the hospitals Integrated Governance program.

  • Applicants should be NMC registered with a RMN or RNLD qualification
  • Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the mental health act and Safeguarding.
  • Applicants must be flexible and have the ability to operate within the hospital’s on-call system.

You will be fully supported in your role through clinical supervision and peer support.
