Highly motivated and ambitious individuals are invited to apply for the above posts to commence as soon as possible for 6 months in the first instance. There may be a possibility to extend the posts for another 6 months. The South East Neurosurgery and Spinal surgery services cover over 16 million population in Sussex, East Kent and East of Surrey. All emergency services are located in Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, and The Major Trauma Centre of the South East of England. An elective spinal unit is located in the Princess Royal Hospital site in Haywards Heath. The South East Neurosurgical centre is an excellent place to work with on-calls providing broad experience in all aspects of neurosurgery and spinal surgery supporting the Major Trauma Centre. This is an excellent opportunity for the junior doctors who aspire to become neurosurgeons. All our posts are well supported and closely supervised by consultants and the successful post holders will be assigned to an Educational and Clinical supervisor and will have regular career progress supervision. There will be a roster to aim for theatre attendance once a week and in addition the post holders are expected to attend teaching sessions and clinics.

The trust strongly support teaching and training and the post holders will attend the MRCS exam preparation sessions organised by the Core Surgical training programme.

All referrals to the department are discussed at a multidisciplinary team meeting at 8am where all Consultants in Neurosurgery, Neuro-intensive care, Neuro-radiology and senior ward staff attend and this serves as a forum for education and training. There will be weekly protected teaching time for all junior doctors in the unit.

Unit is well equipped with two brand new operating theatres, state of art biplanar Neuro-Angiography suit, Neuro- Navigation and Neuro-monitoring facilities and CT and MRI scanning.

We are closely linked with Neurosurgical Units at King’s College Hospital and St George’s Hospital in London and all three together form South Thames Neurosurgery National Training rotation.
