Clinical Fellow (ST1/2 level) in Neurosurgery
We wish to appoint a full time Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery. Clinical Fellows are responsible for the care of Neurosurgical patients on the ward and will also gain experience in the management of critically ill Neurosurgery patients within the Trust’s High Dependency Unit. The Clinical Fellow will have plenty of opportunities to be involved in surgical procedures depending on their interest and previous experience. This job provides training opportunities in the general Neurosurgical care of patients with on-call cover for Neurology and Stroke patients and as such will be suitable for candidates with an interest in a Neuroscience (Neurology or Neurosurgery), ENT or ITU career.
The very busy Unit provides a comprehensive Neurosurgical service to a population of at least 25 million adults within the Southwest of England with additional specialist referrals from the UK and abroad. Southmead Hospital is a Major Trauma centre in the Southwest and the post holder will benefit from the emergency and trauma experience this will generate.
This post will start as soon as possible for a period of 6 months in the first instance with the possibility of extension.
Applicants are required to have full Registration with the GMC. The post is based at Southmead Hospital which is a brand new state of the art multi-specialty hospital with the latest in technological and patient safety systems. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
This post is not accredited for post-graduate training by the Royal college of Surgeons or the Severn Deanery. However, it is educationally sound and well supported by regular teaching within protected time.
