A vacancy has arisen for a Band 7 clinical nurse specialist in Immunology. The post holder will work alongside the Consultant Immunologists to provide treatment to patients suffering from Immunological diseases. This will include defects of immune system causing immunodeficiency or allergies. The post holder will be the care coordinator for patients with chronic immunological diseases mainly primary and secondary immune defects and will supervise and assist with the provision of intravenous and subcutaneous immunoglobulin therapies to patients suffering from Immunodeficiency conditions in hospital or assist patients’ training enabling them to have home therapy.
They will also participate in investigation and management of allergic diseases including skin and intradermal testing, challenges and drug testing as well as sublingual and subcutaneous immunotherapy.
Applicants should have at least 5 years post registration experience with 12 months recent experience at Band 6 and must be IV trained. The successful candidate will be expected to take part in audit and to help educate other members of staff. Some experience of allergy/immunodeficiency is essential and further training will be given. The post holder will be expected to develop their knowledge and skills base by attending specialty related courses and events.
Possibility of recruiting to a developmental band 6 post also exists. In such case applicants should have at least 3 years post registration experience with knowledge of Immunodeficiency/allergy desirable but not essential.

The Midland Metropolitan Hospital is being built in Smethwick and will be open in October 2018. It will be the single acute hospital for Sandwell and West Birmingham, providing state of the art healthcare facilities for the population. The Midland Metropolitan will house the emergency department, maternity, acute inpatient wards and operating theatres. Sandwell Hospital remains the site for the Trust headquarters. As well as providing outpatient services, day case surgery and intermediate care beds, the Sandwell Treatment Centre will have a large urgent care centre. The City Hospital site will provide outpatient care and day case surgery from the Birmingham Treatment Centre. Intermediate care beds will remain on the City Hospital site along with the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre.
