The hospital is served by great transport links from the city centre, by Park & Ride services from the centre of town and Odd Down, and is accessible via national cycle route 24, 244 and the beautiful Two Tunnels Greenway.
Applications are invited for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist. This is a permanent 0.8 WTE post. The postholder will join a dynamic and growing multiprofessional team based in the RUH. The post holder will spend their time delivering assessments, psychological formulation and consultation, and psychological interventions face-to-face and indirectly, to children and young people with CFS/ME at clinics within Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and the Avon area. They will be provided with additional supervision, which will cover the face-to-face work, as well as managerial and professional supervision issues. There will also be an exciting opportunity to deliver online Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to adolescents and parents via email within the innovative FITNET-NHS randomised control trial. The post-holder will undergo intensive training in order to be familiarised with the FITNET-NHS treatment protocol and manual.
The paediatric CFS/ME team is a multidisciplinary team, and there are regular team meetings, which also include members of the research team from the University of Bristol, with whom the team maintains very close links. This ensures that evidence-based practice is delivered within the clinical team, and that the clinical team are able to contribute to the generation of new research ideas. There are a number of psychologists in the team, with established supervisory and support structures. The psychologists in the team are actively encouraged to involve themselves in service development opportunities, which provide an excellent grounding for developing and building upon leadership and consultation skills. The psychologists also supervise trainee Clinical Psychologists from the University of Bath, on practice placements and on research projects. Close links are maintained with the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Bath, which offers opportunities for CPD and skills development.
A real strength of the team is that it is a research active team, and all members of the team are involved in research processes such as recruiting patients into studies, delivering treatments within RCTs, supporting service user involvement in research, and disseminating research findings. Staff are encouraged to evaluate their practice and to ensure that it is as effective as it can possibly be.
Experience managing children with CFS/ME is not essential, as training will be given. What is more important is a desire to learn and a keen interest in evidence based management. Previous experience of working with children and families is essential.
