Job Description

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) is a significant provider of high quality mental health services across a core catchment area covering Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. The Trust also provides specialist services for a wider catchment extending throughout the south west.

Our aim is to enable and empower people to reach their potential and to live fulfilling lives through providing recovery and reablement focused services that yield positive outcomes for our service users and their carers.

Specifically, The Trust provides services for people with mental health needs, with needs relating to drug or alcohol dependency and mental health services for people with learning disabilities. We also provide secure mental health services and work with the criminal justice system.

Increasingly AWP provides treatment and care in people's own homes and other community settings, reflecting the preferences of our service users. Our community services are supported by high quality inpatient services that provide short term assessment, treatment and care.

BAND 7 Community Forensic Practioner (Allied Health Professional)
225 hours per week, 18 months Fixed Term Contract or Secondment.

The Pathfinder Service is an experienced multidisciplinary team working with people with a diagnosis of personality disorder and high risk of harm to others, based at Petherton Resource Centre, Hengrove, Bristol. It is a tertiary level service within the Specialised Local Delivery Unit of AWP NHS Trust which offers assessment and treatment to service users, and supervision, consultation and training to staff. The Pathfinder Service comprises four sub-teams (Core, Assertive Case Management, Offender Personality Disorder Pathway and Nexus Personality Disorder Service at HMP Eastwood Park) which operate on a largely independent basis but with a central management structure, shared principles and ethos, staff members working across more than one team and information sharing and co-working of cases as appropriate.

A vacancy has arisen for an experienced practioner to work within the Pathfinder Service. Qualified Nurses, Social workers, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, or Arts Therapists are welcome to apply. The role entails providing specialist psychological assessments and interventions to service users as appropriate to the service. There is significant emphasis on consultation and pathway planning advice for other agencies, including the National Probation Service, and other staff working with these service users, some of whom are in secure hospital placements outside of the AWP Trust boundary. The role also involves providing clinical supervision to other professionals. The post-holder should have a relevant qualification, and experience of working with service users with personality disorder/complex needs. Experience of working within a forensic setting would be advantageous, although not essential.

The team is a well-established, supportive multi-disciplinary group with a wide a range of special interests, clinical models and approaches. There are good supervision and management structures.
