Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, and offers a full range of district hospital services and community health services to a population of 16 million in Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Between April 1 2014 and March 31 2015 we treated 100,662 day cases and inpatients (elective and non-elective), 329,257 outpatients and had 83,303 A & E attendances. The total number of community contacts was 1,228,494.
The Trust houses a state of the art Simulation & Skills Facility that provides training for all grades of staff to improve the safety and quality of the service that we offer our patients.
We run a portfolio of in-house courses that can be accessed by all staff to enhance their professional development needs. The training is supported by the use of modern equipment including part task trainers for such skills as venepuncture and full body manikins for the practice of emergency drills.
Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant in Emergency Medicine working across the geographical areas of Blackpool Fylde & Wyre. These are newly established posts for a planned increase in numbers to 10 Consultants. The successful candidates will join 5 Consultant Colleagues. These are supported by 3 STR’s, 5 Staff Grades, 8 Nurse practitioners and 20 training grades, as well as a multi-professional team based in a purpose built Emergency Department.
The Emergency Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a high performing and forward-looking Department. The Department deals with approximately 86,000 new patients and 5,000 follow up patients per annum and performs well with respect to the 4 hour standard. We are currently pursuing a quality agenda based around improving outcomes and reducing mortality in line with the College standards. In addition we are working closely with our host PCT to direct attendees with primary care problems to the adjoining Urgent Care Centre. The Emergency Department uses a recently developed electronic patient records system supplied by ALERT ®.
Blackpool Victoria Hospital is an 849 bedded District General Hospital serving the three surrounding boroughs of Blackpool Fylde & Wyre. It has a population of 330,000 with some seasonal variation as Blackpool and the Fylde Coast attracts up to 16 million visitors a year. There are desirable residential areas throughout the Fylde Coast area and rural Wyre, with excellent schooling facilities within easy reach of the hospital.
Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of attaining CCT at date of interview.
