We are looking to welcome a second otologist to join 4 existing consultants with wide expertise in Otology, Rhinology, Facial Plastics and Thyroid Surgery. This is a new post as part of the succession planning when the senior otologist retires in the next few years, and also help to cope with the increase in demand. The department has an excellent reputation for otology teaching and Training.
Ipswich Hospital has the Regional Temporal Bone Dissection Lab for the Eastern Region. We organize the Regional training course for the Registrars in Temporal Bone dissection as well as 2 International courses in Middle Ear Surgery and Lacrimal Duct Surgery.
The ENT department has a modern ENT clinic with 5 consultation rooms, all equipped with microscope and endoscopes. The audiology department is well equipped with the start of the art facilities for audio-vestibular testing. The successive candidate will help the senior otologist to run the balance clinic. The ENT operating theatre is well equipped with otology laser, state of the art microscope and endoscopic equipment. The department runs the BAHA service for the population in East Suffolk and North Essex. Candidates must have specific expertise in Otology and a fellowship in this field. The new consultant will have a joint operating session once a week with the senior otologist to operate on tertiary referral cases with the aim of eventually take over his practice when he retires. He/she will also share the responsibility of running the temporal bone course with the senior otologist.
