We are delighted to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our friendly progressive team. The Department of Cardiology at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint one committed full-time Consultant Interventional Cardiologist. Queen’s Hospital is a forward-thinking, friendly district general hospital with a Cardiology department that already provides a wide range of core Cardiology services and has good working relationships with larger neighbouring Trusts.

The Trust wishes to enhance and strengthen Cardiology services provided. The successful candidate will help shape and deliver our Interventional service and be fundamental in our clear ambition to provide on-site Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). The successful applicant will enhance and contribute to the process by which BCIS accreditation is achieved. This post will replace a long serving consultant who is retiring. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team of 4 Consultants complemented by specialist nurses in Heart failure and Acute Coronary Syndrome.

This is a full time post with 10 PA allocation which includes a commitment to a 1:5 Cardiology on call rota. It is subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of the new consultant contract (2003). Further conditions have been implemented by the Trust that have been negotiated with the Medical and Dental Local Negotiating Committee. The national salary scale for Consultant appointments will apply (YC72).

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register of the GMC and hold a licence to practice, or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date.

The post offers the opportunity to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty within the National Forest area and the Peak District National Park is also within close vicinity. Visits can be arranged for candidates in order to appreciate the quality of life our Hospital and the surrounding area can offer including:-

  • excellent road (A50/M1/M6/M42), rail and airport links (Nottingham East Midlands, Birmingham and Manchester Airport)
  • Easy access to the cities of Birmingham, Nottingham and Sheffield
