The Acute Medical department has grown over the last two years and now provides a modern service including a 19 bed Acute Medical Unit (AMU), a joint medical and surgical Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), and regular Acute Medicine Clinics in the out-patient department. The AMU has excellent in-reach services from many specialities and facilitates one-stop ward rounds and daily multi-disciplinary board rounds.
Furness General Hospital has recently been given the prestigious Vanguard Status to develop care in an integrated model across primary and secondary care in our local area. We have a strong focus upon team working and the development of excellent working relationships across all our departments. We believe that we provide a friendly, supportive and effective working environment.
The Trust has a keen interest and deep involvement in medical and dental education at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. Medical Students from Lancaster Medical School receive the whole of their education, academic and clinical, in Cumbria and North Lancashire following the Liverpool undergraduate medical curriculum. UHMBT is the lead NHS organisation and takes responsibility throughout the five years of the degree for the provision of acute practice placements.
Cross bay working with the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and links with Lancaster University are encouraged. Lancaster University has a rapidly developing medical school and academic opportunities are common.
You must be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining your CCT at the time of interview.
