Applications are invited for a Consultant Breast Surgeon to join the existing team at Thirlestaine Breast Centre, Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a new post and both full/part-time working would be considered.

The successful candidate will be expected to have experience in breast surgery in both the screening and symptomatic settings and some oncoplastic training. Experience in breast ultrasound and/or a willingness to undertake training in ultrasound is desirable.

Both the breast screening and symptomatic services are based at Thirlestaine Breast Centre, Cheltenham. This is a purpose-built integrated unit, operational since October 2009. It is a fully-equipped Full Field Digital Screening Unit; there are three ultrasound units. Surgery is performed at Cheltenham General, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital & Stroud Hospital.

The successful candidate would be joining a team of 6 surgeons (5wte), 1 trust doctor, 9 breast care nurses, 3 consultant radiologists and 2 breast clinicians. Together we treat over 600 breast cancers a year.

We actively participate in training, audit and research and are currently undertaking clinical trials.

Cheltenham is a large Regency town renowned for its music, literary and cricket festivals and for the ‘Cheltenham Gold Cup’. Gloucestershire is well known for its cultural and leisure activities and has many excellent state and private schools as well as colleges of higher education and its own university (the University of Gloucestershire).
