Applications are invited for the permanent post of Consultant Histopathologist which is to start with immediate effect subject to interview, pre-employment validation and demonstration of appropriate qualifications – the post holder would be expected to hold FRCPath by examination (or evidence of an equivalent qualification) and holder of Certificate of a Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview.
You would be joining 4 other consultants in a busy, friendly department providing a full histopathology and diagnostic cytology service to the local population of Bolton, Lancashire. The activity is approximately 19,500 surgical histology requests and 2,500 cytology requests per annum and the laboratory operates a general reporting system. Reporting of Cervical Cytology will not be a requirement but the post holder would be expected to develop a specialist interest as well as participating in delivery of a post mortem service. The histopathology consultants make an integral contribution to MDTs across the Trust, the key cancer sites are breast, colorectal, upper gastro-intestinal, urological, skin, gynaecological, haematological, head and neck, and lung.
The post holder will be expected to work flexibly with other medical practitioners, laboratory staff and relevant healthcare workers, and will be expected to support post-graduate training and training of SpR trainees on rotation to the department. The department of Laboratory Medicine holds full CPA accreditation across all its disciplines, is a multi-award winner for service improvement, efficiency and innovation, and has a strong interest in LEAN methodology.
