Acute Medicine Consultants

There has never been a more exciting time to join our acute medicine teams. We are substantially expanding our current services through a 2 million pound investment over the next 3 years. We have recently opened a dedicated state of the art Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) unit at our Royal Stoke University Hospital (RSUH) site. An additional 5 million pounds are being invested into the reconfiguration and refurbishment of emergency and acute medicine services across our sites as part of a dedicated capital investment scheme.

Our AMU department is a dynamic and well performing unit known for its high standards of care. Our current services include a 46 bed AMU and 25 bed SSU at RSUH and a 31 bed AMU at our County site admitting on average 50 – 60 patients in a 24 hour period. Members of the Acute Medicine department have a team approach which is enhanced by the excellent quality of our nursing colleagues. The University Hospitals of North Midlands provide a wide range of specialty services as a regional tertiary centre benefitting patients across our sites. There are established pathways in place streaming select acute patient groups directly into specialised services inc. primary PCI for STEMI’s, a frail elderly assessment unit, direct renal, neurology and haematology/oncology admissions and an acute stroke unit providing 24/7 thrombolysis and vascular interventions. The unit has a strong focus on critical care and enjoys strong links with the local Intensive Care department.

Consultants in Acute Medicine with or without specialty interest

The University Hospital of North Midlands is currently offering an enhanced salary package to suitable candidates.

We welcome applicants with a specialty interest which could be easily accommodated into the job plan.

You will become part of a team of 10 consultants at our RSUH site and 4 consultants at our County site. We are aiming to increase our total consultant numbers to 24 over the next 3 years. We offer an innovative and sustainable Consultant work pattern that has gained national acclaim. This system balances OOH cover with compensatory time off factored into the job plan including time off before and after a weekend duty. You will be well supported by a large group of nurse practitioners, resident junior doctors and middle grades. 5 Acute Medicine ST3-7 trainees and four trust grades/specialty doctors are currently attached to our department. We have plans to further significantly expand our middle grade numbers through dedicated posts supporting the achievement of a CCT via the CESR route.
