Job Description

St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the regional specialist care provider for south west London, Surrey and beyond. The trust provides a high quality, comprehensive range of health services from leading edge tertiary and trauma care to community services, delivered from 2 hospital sites, St.George’s Hospital in Tooting and Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton, and from St John’s Therapy Centre, 11 health centres and clinics, schools, nursing homes and people’s own homes. The trust also manages the healthcare service at HMP Wandsworth. With national and regional referrals added to our local 35m catchment, we serve a population of around 5m. Consultant in General and Ambulatory Paediatrics (Deputy Lead for Child Safeguarding)

Applications are invited for a dynamic and enthusiastic consultant paediatrician to join our General Paediatrics service at St George’s Hospital.

The postholder will work with the four other colleagues to provide a 1:5 consultant of the week service for the general wards. During this week they will provide two daily ward rounds, attend board rounds, cover for all emergency admissions and attend the morning and afternoon handover rounds. They will liaise with PICU regarding step-down patients. The post holder will work alongside, as deputy, the named doctor for safeguarding.

The non-service weeks are varied and will include outpatient work, academic and management activities. The post older will lead rapid access clinics and supervise ST doctors. Future developments may include integrated clinics in primary care, emergency review clinics to support ambulatory / paediatric assessment unit (PAU) activity and medical input to surgical patients.

The successful applicant will participate in the general paediatric out of hours service. The rota is expected to be 1:12, with the consultant resident in the hospital until 10 pm.

St Georges Hospital is a major teaching hospital in SW London. The Trust is planning a major refurbishment of paediatric inpatient facilities. The Childrens service offers a wide range of specialist services including NICU, PICU, Paediatric Surgery,Respiratory, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Allergy. There are close links with the Royal Marsden Hospital with a shared primary treatment centre.

This post is based in the St George’s Hospital campus where s/he will have an office, IT, and secretarial support.
