DIRECTORATE OF CLINICAL HAEMATOLOGY
Applications are invited for this exciting new shared post between The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust for a Consultant Haematologist on a 10 Programmed Activity per week basis.
The post will be a joint appointment to cover level 1-3 Haematology and will be based three days at the Manor Hospital Walsall and two days at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton.
Walsall Healthcare Haematology service is a level 2a service and Wolverhampton has a level 2b service, which includes a 26 bedded inpatient ward on the New Cross Hospital site. Out patient and day case services are offered on 3 sites – New Cross Hospital, Walsall Manor Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and committed individual to contribute to the Clinical Haematology service.The successful applicant will play a key role in the delivery and development of clinical and laboratory Haematology
The successful candidate will be joining our team of 9 experienced consultants, supported by a team of 4 Specialty Doctors, 1 Senior Clinical Fellow and 1 higher level trainee, 3 experienced Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Practice and Education Nurse at New Cross Hospital and 3 Consultants, 1 Specialty Doctor and Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Walsall Manor Hospital site.
The post holder will support ward based activities at New Cross, and will contribute to weekends and out of hours on call, covering Walsall Manor Hospital, New Cross and Cannock Hospitals on a one in 9 rota.
Both organisations have well appointed, accredited laboratory services.
The post holder will be an active part of the Clinical Haematology team and will take full part in joint MDT’s with colleagues from the Dudley Group of Hospitals, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop sub-specialty interests within branches of Haematology. The successful candidates will have their own office and microscope within Pathology and close to their professional colleagues.
Both Trusts have active Multi-Purpose Educational Centres which include lecture and seminar rooms with modern audio and visual equipment and IT facilities. There is a full and extensive education program in which the Haematologists are fully engaged.
Walsall and Wolverhampton are within easy access of the motorway network and offers a high standard of education, housing and recreational facilities, with easy access to Shropshire, Staffordshire and Birmingham.
The successful candidate must possess Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice; a basic medical degree (e.g. MBBS or equivalent); be on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible within six months of the interview date and should have a wide range of experience in haematology.
