Consultant In Paediatric Emergency Medicine
£76,001 – £102,465 per annum
Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Consultant to join a cohesive, friendly and supportive team within the Paediatric Emergency Department, Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
Queen Alexandra Hospital is a very large District General Hospital with a wide range of specialities providing services to a population of over 600,000.

The purpose of this post is to complement existing working practices and further strengthen cohesion for the benefit of the children and young people using our services.
You will spend 6 clinical sessions within the Paediatric Emergency Department and 2 clinical sessions within the Children’s Assessment Unit a week with 2 non clinical sessions.
You will run clinical sessions in the Paediatric Emergency Department to provide cover during these times and assist in the development of the Paediatric Emergency Department.
In addition to the Emergency Department commitment, you will join a team of Consultant Paediatricians in the provision of acute paediatric care, within the Children’s Assessment Unit.
The Emergency Department sees over 115,000 patients per year of which 25% are Paediatric.
The Children’s Emergency Department is situated within the footprint of the general Emergency Department and is staffed by dual accredited consultants, registrars, junior trainees and children’s emergency nurses.
Currently the Paediatric Emergency Department is open from 08:00hrs to 01:00hrs, outside of these times children presenting to the Emergency Department are seen in the general Emergency Department where their care is overseen by the Generic Emergency Department Consultant on call.
The Children’s Emergency Service is currently undergoing vast change with the development of the new Advanced Care Practitioner programme and a planned move towards an Integrated Paediatric Emergency Service.
The Paediatric Emergency Department provides Paediatric sub-speciality training to ST7 and GRID trainees.
