Consultant in Thoracic Surgery

Bexley Wing, St James’s University Hospital

We are looking for an individual to fill this new post within the Thoracic Surgery Department at St James’s University Hospital.

The post will be based at the Leeds Cancer Centre, St James’s University Hospital. This is a new substantive post to increase the existing complement of five Consultant Thoracic Surgeons to six, ensuring the Trust continues to appropriately manage all patients requiring treatment for Thoracic disease.

The surgical service is based on Ward J84, a dedicated 32 bed Thoracic facility in the Leeds Cancer Centre, including a dedicated 4 bedded HDU.

The successful applicant must hold accreditation in Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Royal College of Surgeons (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in all aspects of Thoracic Surgery and appropriate experience in VATS surgery and airway management It is desirable that the candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.
