Job Description

We reserve the right to withdraw this vacancy at any time if there is a high level of applications therefore, we would recommend that you submit your application as early as possible.

There is a possibility that some fixed term appointments may be converted to permanent posts.

Please note that IF the vacancy states 'INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY' or 'INTERNAL TRUST APPLICANTS ONLY' Doncaster and Bassetlaw Trust Employees/Applications will only be considered against this post

Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recently invested over £3 million in a new Eye Centre at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The centre opens in September 2016 and four new consultant posts have been funded to support the associated service development. Two posts were filled in July (Glaucoma and Cornea) and this advert is for the remaining positions. The Trust seeks dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic consultants committed to the highest standards of clinical care.

Applications are invited for 2 substantive Consultant Ophthalmologists covering the following sub-specialty interests: Paediatrics, Neuro-Ophthalmology, or Oculoplastics.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a department that has undergone significant capital investment and post-holders will be given all the necessary support to develop their service. The successful applicants will be joining a strong team of 9 Consultant Ophthalmologists with sub-specialty interests in Medical Retina, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, Cornea, and Paediatric Ophthalmology.

The department has theatre and outpatient facilities at 3 sites: Doncaster Royal Infirmary (Doncaster), Montagu Hospital (Mexborough), and Bassetlaw Hospital (Worksop). It is well equipped with 5 Heidelberg Spectralis OCTs, 2 Pascal Argon Lasers, Flourescein/ICG Angiography, corneal topography (Pentacam), ultrasound, AR-1 autorefractors and a slit-lamp camera. All sites have dedicated ophthalmic theatres with Stellaris phacoemulsification machines, and Zeiss Lumera 700 operating microscopes with HD viewing and recording capability.

The hospital is a participating unit in the North Trent Specialty Training Programme, and Ophthalmology currently has 1 Specialty Trainee on rotation from Sheffield.

The applicant is expected to have full accreditation, and be on, or within three months of inclusion on, the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council.
