Job Description

Applications are invited for a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in the generality of upper limb surgery. The applicant should be able to contribute to the provision of elective shoulder service and will also be expected to contribute in the provision of hand trauma. The successful applicant will join a team of 16 Consultants who provide a wide range of services in Peterborough and Stamford NHS Foundation Trust. Applicants should be fellowship trained with the necessary experience and personality to lead a multidisciplinary team and assist in developing our arthroplasty service. Applicants will be required to demonstrate excellent team working, being flexible, adaptive and able to integrate into a strong cohesive team to deliver operational performance. The surgeon will be expected to participate in all departmental activities including audit, clinical governance, research, and teaching. The post holder will participate in a general on call rota, currently 1 in 14. They should be able to deal with common adult and paediatric orthopaedic emergencies and liaise with specialist centres when appropriate. Peterborough and Stamford NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for the delivery of a breadth of healthcare services over a wide geographical area. The main site in Peterborough City Hospital deals with emergency care, elective inpatient operating and outpatient services. Some orthopaedic outpatient clinics and minor procedures are delivered in Stamford. It is anticipated that some of the working week will be fixed however some sessions may remain flexible. Applicants should be aware that the Trust is currently exploring possibilities of collaborating with our neighbours. If successfully concluded this will lead to a considerable departmental expansion. It should be accepted that location and shape of services may change in the future. Peterborough is large and rapidly growing city surrounded by beautiful market towns and villages in nearby countryside. It offers excellent schooling and quality of life and has first-rate transport links.
