Consultant General Paediatrics with an interest in Neonates
We are looking to recruit Consultant in General Paediatrics with an interest in Neonates based at Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen. This post will support the reconfiguration of the child health service, and develop the Paediatric Neonatal Service and you will join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward looking General Paediatrics department. This is an exciting time to join the team, as we ensure specialist nursing, dietetics and psychology input is improved. This post is primarily based in Carmarthenshire.

The Women and Children’s Health Directorate provides services for children, young people, and women within the Hywel Dda Health Board. The Paediatric team operates with a full senior nursing team. The Directorate aims to provide fully integrated secondary children’s services to flexibly meet the health needs of local children. Following reconfiguration of our service in West Wales, we operate one centralised SCBU (250 admissions/ year, retrieval by the neonatal transport service for intensive care), with acute paediatrics delivered in each district general hospital site.

Primary care and community services are delivered through: 55 GP practices, 51 Dental practices, 100 Community pharmacies, 52 Optometry premises, 8 Community hospitals, 11 Health centres. Our in-hospital services are currently delivered through:4 Hospitals (Bronglais, Glangwili, Prince Philip, Withybush.

There is also a team of 52 trained appraisers to undertake appraisal meetings. Appraisal workshops and training sessions are provided regularly across the Health Board.
Professor Keir Lewis has been recently appointed as the Chair of Respiratory Medicine in Hywel Dda with further appointments for the future, which will significantly increase the already very active research portfolio within the health board.
