Job Description

In-patient and Community

40 hours (10PA’s) per week plus on-call

£76,001 - £102,465 per annum plus 05PA for on-call and 3% (of a 10PA salary) Category A availability supplement

This is a full time Consultant post based at the Thanet Mental Health Unit located within the grounds of a general district hospital/ Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent.

Thanet community mental health team provide secondary service to Thanet CCG for older adult above 65y and patients referred for memory problems from any age group above 18. The service has two inpatient wards on site with a total of 30 beds.

The post holder will have inpatient responsibility for average 15 patients admitted to Thanet Mental Health Unit (Woodchurch and Sevenscore wards) and Ogden Unit which is a 15 bed unit for continuing and nursing care. This unit is owned by social services and nursing staff from KMPT are seconded to it. The unit has a dedicated GP cover.

The post holder will provide specialist advice and support to the old age liaison service established across East Kent, specifically to the collocated QEQM hospital and the OPMH specialist liaison nurses who work there. There is also a full time consultant psychiatrist in liaison psychiatry in East Kent, who is an older persons specialist, so support for the Liaison service is to provide expert opinion where required and to support the existing service if required.

Applicants should have Specialist Registration with the GMC, as well as Approved Clinician and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act. There is an associated on call commitment.

The successful applicant will be required to have enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
