The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has an international reputation for high quality patient care, education and research and its partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research has created the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe.

The Royal Marsden NHS Trust has a well established surgical program across all surgical specialties and this is an excellent opportunity to increase experience in surgical oncology. These appointments offer excellent learning opportunities in units leading national and international research programmes. You will gain experience of working in multi-disciplinary units composed of surgeons, medical and clinical oncologists and specialists in palliative medicine, all working together to provide high quality management of cancer patients.

These posts would be suitable for a senior SHO who has completed core surgical training and is hoping to be appointed to an ST3 position. The successful candidate would be able to gain significant experience in gastrointestinal surgery within a team that is very keen to train and support surgical development.
There are significant opportunities to take part in our extensive research programme in various areas and junior staff are actively encouraged to participate in such programmes. The post holder would be expected to participate in our research and contribute to national and international presentations as well contribute to publications to peer-reviewed journals.

The post holder will work closely within their allocated firm (comprising of between two to three specialties) and will provide cross cover for other surgical firms. The post covers the full range of surgical oncology firms when on call. These include colorectal, gynaecology, sarcoma, breast and gastrointestinal.

Whilst this is not a formally recognised training post, there will be full training and development opportunities from the Consultants, SpRs and Clinical Fellows.

Post is offered for 6 months, extendable to 12 months upon review.
The positions are on the MN37 pay scale which ranges from £30, 302 - £47, 647 and includes on-call residential duties at band 1B. The post is to start in as soon as possible. The trust operates an equal opportunity policy.
