Ambulatory emergency care is an emerging, streamlined way of managing patients presenting to hospital who would traditionally be admitted. Instead, they can be treated in an ambulatory care setting and discharged the same day – offering benefits to patients, carers, support workers and NHS trusts. (Royal College of Physicians 2014).

Located at the Peterborough City Hospital, our Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is a rapidly developing and exciting department. We have recently seen a dramatic rise in the number of emergency patients who have attended the unit for whom we have avoided the need to spend a night in hospital. This achieves high patient satisfaction and is a rewarding and exciting department to work in. We are therefore looking for an additional band 6 nurse to join this exciting team on its continued journey of development.

We also provide services of the Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) clinic, Out-patient Anti-microbial Treatments, regular infusions for specialist conditions, specialist blood tests and blood transfusions

Interested parties must show a dynamic approach to developing services and be able to demonstrate previous successes in driving changes and improving patient care. Excellent communication skills and good team management are vital to the success of this role.

Depending on the successful candidate there may be the opportunity to continue development through an Advanced Nurse Practitioner training scheme. This involves in house training as well as access to the Advanced Clinical Assessment Skills course and the Non-Medical Prescribing course. The appropriate candidate is expected to be able to achieve these at level 7 (Masters Level education).

All post holders must be able to work a twelve hour shift pattern 08:00- 20:30 hours during the week and 08:00-16:00 at weekends with the ability to adapt these hours due to the varying demands on the unit. All enquiries should be made to Sarah Shah (Lead Nurse) on  ( Phone number removed )  or  ( Phone number removed ) . Informal visits are welcomed.

******From 1 August 2013, all employees starting work / transferring roles with Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals will be charged for the cost of a DBS check (currently £50) if it is required.*******
