Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated health care organisation based in the West Midlands predominantly serving a local population of 260,000 residents in the borough of Walsall and the surrounds. We provide a comprehensive range of hospital and community healthcare services from a state of the art general hospital and other primary locations across the Black Country.
Our geographical position in the West Midlands has meant that we have seen more patients choosing to use our services from the Stafford area and this has created significant challenges which were reflected in our report from the CQC inspection in September 2015; Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust received a rating of “inadequate”. The report published however recognises the commitment and hard work shown by staff across the Trust in challenging circumstances. It also praises community services, services for children in the hospital and community, and end of life care in the community with “good” ratings for all of these.
The Trust recognises that this is not good enough for our patients and is taking action to ensure that we improve key services quickly: We have redesigned patient flow in A&E and have committed to constructing the new £9m Integrated Critical Care Unit (ICCU), and developing the £3m plan for the extension of our neo-natal unit. Part of our continuing response to these challenges is the delivery of our Improvement Plan – ‘Improving for Patients, Improving for Colleagues and Improving for the Long-Term’. We have already made substantial progress and this has been recognised by NHS Improvement following their visit. We have also made headway in improving quality and safety, we are committed to delivering great care in all of our wards and services and as part of our improvement plans we are recruiting to a number of clinical and non-clinical vacancies across the trust.
Please take the time to view our website and click on our improvement plan page.
