Disabled Children's Community Nurse
Salary: £28,104 - £30,555
Location: New Malden/Bedelsford School
Reports To: Team Manager - Disabled Children's Nursing Team
Type: Full Time Permanent Position - 36 Hours per week
The post holder will provide a high standard of nursing care for a disabled child in a variety of settings including school, home and respite. The post holder will provide care in liaison with education, health, social services and voluntary organisations. The nurse will work in partnership with parents, teachers and therapists in the best interest of the child's development.
Duties of a Disabled Children's Community Nurse?
The role includes assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for an individual child. This would include; escorting him to school on transport, remaining with him throughout the school day, supported by the school nurse, and then returning home on transport. In school holidays you will be required to attend holiday activities/ respite with him. His care needs include administering routine and emergency care as necessary and outlined in the care plans, respiratory care which includes deep suctioning, use of a cough assist and nebulisation. He is also fed via a gastrostomy and dependant for all his personal care and mobility needs.
The role also involves training family/staff to be able to meet child's needs, joint working with members of the multidisciplinary team, delivering evidence based care, safeguarding and promoting health. The team may deliver a continence service in the future so an interest or experience in this area would be valuable

Am I the right person for this Disabled Children's Community Nurse Role?
To be considered for the role, the essential requirements include; RSCN/RN (Child) qualification; Teaching and assessing course (ENB 998 or equivalent); Specialist knowledge of nursing children with special needs; Ability to work autonomously with an individual child.
Desirable requirements include; Specialist Practice Community Qualification; Other courses pertaining to children with special needs; Experience of working with children/young people with complex health needs; Experience working in the community.
