Badger ward is one of the few specialised respiratory wards in the UK. Our aim is to provide the highest possible care for children and their families with underlying respiratory conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, and Hypoventilation syndrome to name a few.
On our ward we have a 4 bedded HDU area where we care for children who require a higher level of nursing care, such as patients who require airway management and who are ventilator dependent and those that require chest drains for severe chest infections. We are also part of the regional programme in caring for children who are Non-Invasive ventilator dependent. This is a growing field in paediatric respiratory medicine.
We have a very exciting year ahead as we are planning to move to a brand new state-of-the-art ward which is due to open in Summer 2017. Therefore we are currently looking to expand our nursing team.
We are seeking experienced nurses at Band 5 level who have a special interest in the care of children with both acute and chronic respiratory conditions, to help us develop our respiratory services at Great Ormond Street Hospital. You’ll join a friendly and dynamic multi professional team.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring high quality evidence based care is delivered to the children in our care. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team are essential to the job. You will also be expected to have an understanding of professional and current issues in children’s nursing.
