At Mencap we work in partnership with people with a learning disability. We do this by providing high-quality, flexible services that support people, including young adults, to live as independently as possible in their own homes and in the community.

Role Description
We have opportunities for Support Workers to join our services in Ilford and in Goodmayes where we support adults with a learning disability. Working in either of the services, the successful candidates will be working shifts on a rota basis. Shifts are spread across the weekdays, weekdays and bank holidays including mornings, afternoons, evenings and sleep ins. Working times include but not limited to early shift (07:00 am to 14:30), late shift(14:30 to 22:00), sleep-in shift (22: 00 to 07:00 am next day). Sleep-in duties might be at either of the services and you may occasionally be required to cover wake-in night shift at Mayfair Avenue. Flexibility is therefore important for us to meet the needs of the people we support.

We have permanent full or part-time and relief contracts available. Our service in Goodmayes ( Kingswood Road) is currently home to 4 adults who all require different levels of support. One of the people we support in this service uses a walking frame at home and wheelchair when going out into the community. The suitable candidates for this service will therefore need to be able to provide support as required.

The service in Ilford ( Mayfair Road) is also home to 4 adults who require support with their day to day living skills. One of the people we support uses a wheelchair for mobility and a hoist for moving ( training will be provided).

The people we support enjoy a variety of activities like cooking, shopping, dancing (they attend Wednesday club), gardening, drawing/painting, 1:1 interaction. We provide support with personal care, dressing up, meal/drinkpreparation, cleaning/tidying up, medication administration, support tomaintain health and safety both at home and in the community, booking andsupport to attend appointments, support with finance and paperwork, support tomaintain family ties and support to access the community. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about providing support with day to day activities and community engagement.

Drivers are desirable but not essential for this role. You do not need to have access to own car as some of the people we support have their own cars. Due to the needs of the people we support, this post is open to females only.
