Junior Sister/Charge Nurse – E4 Thoracic

Job Description

The Cardiovascular and Thoracic (CV&T) Care Group provides a regional service and is the largest Clinical Care Group within University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust (UHS). An exciting opportunity has arisen for two full time and one part time (30 hrs a week) Sister’s/Charge Nurse’s to join the team on our Thoracic Ward.

This unit cares for patients requiring Thoracic and Cardiac investigation and surgery who are usually admitted on a planned/elective basis. Emergency transfers and admissions are also accepted from the Emergency Department or our regional district hospitals.

Examples of patients who are admitted to E4 include people with lung cancer requiring surgical removal, people suffering from recurrent pleural effusions and recurrent pneumothoraces. Patients following thoracic trauma and / or fractured ribs & sternum e.g. RTA’s are also admitted on an emergency basis.

We are looking for individuals, who are strong leaders, highly motivated and have excellent communication skills. The roles require close working relationships with the multi-professional team to ensure that evidenced based quality care is delivered with compassion to every patient.

You will be required to have high clinical standards with a passion to make a difference for patients and staff alike. It is essential that you are good at promoting cooperation, building teams and developing people for the future, as well as focusing on your own professional growth.

Our Thoracic ward can be very busy at times and therefore we require nurses that are able to prioritise their workload and offer patients high standards of care whilst maintaining a professional and caring attitude.
