Applications are invited for the post of Locum Appointed for Service (LAS) STR in Psychiatry at Argyll & Bute Hospital, Lochgilphead. Commencing February 2017 for 6 months
THE HOSPITAL Built in 1863, the Argyll and Bute Hospital is situated on a hill overlooking the West Highland town of Lochgilphead and, beyond, Loch Gilp and Loch Fyne. Set in spacious grounds the hospital complex comprises original stone buildings, most of which have been internally upgraded, and a single-storey purpose-built admissions unit commissioned in 1978. Within the hospital complex are all the usual ancillary facilities and also an unusually well-equipped professional library. The hospital currently has a total active bed complement of 60 and employs around 300 personnel. Inter-disciplinary activity occurs at all levels of care and there are active hospital departments of clinical psychology and occupational therapy with ready access to social work via the Mid-Argyll CMHT base. In the vicinity of the hospital are the Mid Argyll Community Hospital and Integrated Care Centre (MACHICC) and health service accommodation with some staff flats. The CHP management offices are situated on campus and there is thus a convenient concentration of virtually all aspects of the local health service within a relatively compact area. The CHP has recently completed a major consultation exercise on redesign of the mental health service and plans have been approved by the Scottish Government. We are now in the process of beginning a major service change to enhance community services, retain a small central inpatient unit and specialist psychotherapy and education centre. www.nhshighland.scot.nhs.uk.
