Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit has commenced and is due to be completed 2017, and plans to extend the neonatal unit are underway.

LOCUM CONSULTANT IN GASTROENTEROLOGY
We are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant to commence as soon as possible to join five other Consultant Gastroenterologists. This is a replacement post. The post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week plus 1 Additional PA available subject to negotiation.
The successful candidate will form a team of 6 Consultants committed to delivering a high quality of care to our local population. The department is supported by 2 specialist trainees on gastroenterology training program, 1 trust doctor along with core medical and foundation year trainees. The department is also supported by Upper GI, IBD, nutrition and colorectal specialist nurses. There are 2 endoscopy nurses trained in flexible sigmoidoscopy and another 2 being trained in OGD and flexible sigmoidoscopy. The post is for 10 basic Programmed Activities (PAs) with one additional PA available per week.
The main duties of the post will include the provision of upper and lower Gastrointestinal Endoscopies (diagnostic and therapeutic); participation in the GI out of hours 1:6 on-call rota; a comprehensive Outpatient service for Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine; teaching and training of junior medical staff, medical students and physician associate students from Birmingham Medical School. There are no general medical on call commitments and the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest to complement the interest of other colleagues.
The Gastroenterology services are rapidly evolving at the trust. There was already provision for diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP. A business plan to provide Endoscopic ultrasound and 24 hour pH manometry has also been approved.
Walsall is a vibrant town within commutable distance from Birmingham and other surrounding towns. There are excellent selective, comprehensive and private schools and recreational facilities in the area.
The successful candidate must: possess full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice; a basic medical degree (eg MBBS or equivalent); Full MRCP (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate relevant experience and training to undertake this post.
