Job Description

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was formed in October 2013, following the merger of Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. The Trust was named as one of the top 100 healthcare employers in HSJ's 2014 survey on the best places to work.

Over the last year, key developments have included:

  • Ongoing work with health and social care partners to reduce A&E waiting times and improve the discharge process.
  • Improvements to how we manage patient information – with the introduction of new systems of electronic patient records at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham.
  • Our ongoing recruitment campaign, which has increased the number of permanent staff by over 400 since the merger.
  • Work to improve infection control, such as the introduction of new hand hygiene foam or gel dispensers in public areas around our sites.

We are seeking exceptionally motivated individuals to join our friendly dynamic team.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust requires a dynamic and forward thinking locum consultant to join the Dermatology team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QE site) as a 3 months locum (parental leave cover) from 12/2016-3/2017. The consultant will work closely with the 12 existing Consultants within the Dermatology services across the sites of the new Trust. The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was created in 2013 from a merger of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with University Hospital Lewisham, as part of a reconfiguration of services in South East London recommended by the Health Secretary.

The hospitals cover the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and parts of Bexley, with a combined population of more than 500,000 people.

At QEH there are 8 consultants and 2 trust doctors. The department at QEH is based in outpatients. There are 2 theatre suites as well as a phototherapy unit. The post will require cover of skin cancer, general and biologic clinics.

All candidates should be on the Specialist Register with the GMC or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT.

The trust is located in Woolwich and has excellent local transport links. The hospital is 5 minutes walk to Ladywell station (this connects with Southeastern trains with fast trains to London Bridge/ Waterloo/Charing Cross). There are buses to Lewisham station which is on DLR/Southeastern trains, with easy access to central London. There is a wide range of residential areas with excellent local amenities and schools.
