Our client are looking for a Consultant Haematologist to join the team based on the Island of Jersey. The succesful Consultant Haemotologist will work with other medical, nursing, and scientific staff, and will provide medical leadership for the diagnostic Haematology Service based within the Pathology Laboratory. He/she is directly responsible for all management and budgetary issues relating to the Haematology & Blood Transfusion Department.
The Haematology Department includes the functions of the Jersey Donor Service which is responsible for the selection, screening, and testing of local volunteer blood donors, and the collection and processing of red cell concentrates for clinical use. This function is licensed under the local Medicines (Jersey) Law 1995, and is independent of the UK National Blood services.
A limited locally-based clinical therapeutic service for outpatients with blood disorders is provided, with all more complex cases managed by UK specialist centres. At present there are referral links with Bournemouth, Southampton and to centres of excellence in London. There is NO local provision for the induction of Acute Leukaemia, and all cases judged as treatable are referred either to Bournemouth or to UCH.
This role operates primarily within the main acute hospital site. The holder of the post will be expected to perform duties within the Pathology Laboratory and to hold outpatient clinics.
There is no routine out-of-hours commitment, with colleagues in Bournemouth providing Consultant Haematologist cover during all absences of the Post holder.
All inpatients with blood disorders are managed by the General Medical and General Surgical teams, and all remain under the overall care of the relevant Consultant Physician or Consultant Surgeon. This includes patients admitted to the two dedicated Neutropenic Isolation Beds created on Sorel/Rozel Wards. The Post holder is expected to provide an inpatient consulting service across all areas of Jersey Hospitals, when available. When he/she is not available specialist advice is obtained from Bournemouth.
The Island of Jersey is not covered by either Crown Indemnity or by any overarching NHS-style Employer-led Medical Indemnity Scheme. The post-holder is therefore required to carry, and when required to provide documentary evidence of full Medical Indemnity covering all medical services he/she will provide to both public and private patients.
This role is a Temporary one, with flights from the UK provided and accomodation available. Please contact Neil Ellerton of MedTeam on 01792 298 300 for information, alternatively, if you feel you are suitable skilled and qualified for this role, please do not hesitate in applying.
