Job Description

We provide Acute Hospital services across four sites.Our organization has grown in size and reputation since it was established as a Trust in1993. We currently have a workforce of approximately 3000 staff across a wide range of professional and specialist groups.

As an ambitious organisation we are continuously looking for ways to enhance and improve the services that we offer patients. We have recently been successful in developing an acute care collaborative with Guys and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust, allowing us greater service development opportunities under the new ‘Vanguard’ partnership programme. In 2016 we also intend to further develop services at Queen Marys Hospital in Sidcup.

Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

We offer you the possibility to join a lively and enthusiastic team in a modern and well-equipped department.

You will join an existing team of 11 Consultants and will be covering a career break for a fixed term period of 12 months from January 2017. Our department offers a comprehensive range of O&G, with a compact outpatient department offering Colposcopy, hysteroscopy, urodynamics and medical antenatal clinics as specialities, plus ultrasound and amniocentesis. We are proud to be the first Trusts to gain accreditation for urogynaecology services from the British Society of urogynaecology accreditation.

There is a day care unit and a main theatre tract with a dedicated laparoscopic operating theatre. Delivery Suite has 2 operating theatres, a birthing pool, Midwifery led Unit, its own dedicated anaesthetic service 24/7 and weekdays its own ODP and scrub nurse. EPU is situated on the Gynae ward. Our Maternity unit continues to grow year on year with a forecast birth of 5250 by the end of this financial year.

This is an exciting time for our department with development opportunities for the successful candidate.

All positions carry a predominantly obstetric workload; however all have also Gynaecology clinic, and Day Care and Main Theatre commitments.

We are a progressive and forward thinking trust, based at DarentValleyHospital, a modern hospital, which opened in 2000. It caters for a population of 290 000. The Trust is a regularly high performing hospital. In 2014/15 we achieved all our key performance and financial objectives, and made a number of key investments in quality, these include new MRI scanner, Dementia Buddy scheme, and IT investment. Our commitment to training was demonstrated by the opening of a simulation suite in 2012, and reaccreditation as an Investor in People.
