Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London’s best known teaching hospitals and employs over 13,650 staff and have over 2 million patient contacts a year.

Our annual turnover is now £13 billion.

The Evelina London Children’s Hospital (ELCH) is seeking a full-time (10 PA) locum consultant in paediatric nephrology to further develop our tertiary service.

ELCH admits over 25,000 patients per year of which over 8,000 are non-elective admissions; over the past year alone both elective and non-elective admitted activity have increased by an average of 8%. This growth is anticipated to continue into the coming years. ELCH has a broad reaching transformational programme entitled Fit for the Future which aims to enhance patient and family care and also has major capital plans to develop additional physical capacity to meet this demand. In addition to this over 125,000 outpatients attend ELCH each year.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive and dynamic team and be part of the innovative future of children’s healthcare across South London and the South East of England.

The Department of Paediatric Nephro-Urology at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, provides a comprehensive nephro-urology service, both secondary and tertiary, including dialysis, transplantation and a medical Bladder service to children and adolescents from south east England with an approximate population of around 10 million. The department provides outreach clinics to a “network” of 10 DGHs in this catchment area. Inpatient services, 18 nephro-urology beds, are provided on Beach Floor. In addition there is a 7 station haemodialysis unit, and we provide home peritoneal dialysis and home haemodialysis training and support.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.
