Our vacancy (Part Time, 12 hours per week)

Our North Lincolnshire Dermatology service operates from the Ironstone Centre in central Scunthorpe providing holistic nurse-led treatment to the local communities. We are a fast growing service and as our Minor Surgery Specialist Doctor you will be our appointed individual across for multi-disciplinary meetings across the region.

The Minor Surgery Specialist Doctor in Skin Cancer and Surgery will join a close-knit team of professionals comprising of Consultant Dermatologist, GPwSIs, Clinical Lead Nurse, HCAs, receptionists and Service Manager. The Ironstone centre is a modern purpose built centre in the heart of the community and opens from 8-5 Monday to Friday with occasional Saturdays, we can be flexible around when your hours are worked.

You will provide nursing expertise in the management of patients undergoing dermatology treatment as an outpatient outside of hospital and deliver innovative community based healthcare for Dermatology patients referred by General Practitioners in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.


As Minor Surgery Specialist Doctor in Skin Cancer and Surgery you will always working within the parameters of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and have experience of performing and leading minor surgeries. Ideally you will have a deep knowledge of cancer. In this role you will also:

  • Support a multidisciplinary dermatology team bringing appropriate clinical services out of the hospital and into the community so patients can be treated closer to home
  • Work with Dermatology Consultants, GPwSI’s and Specialist Dermatology Nurses to provide access to consultation/treatment/dermatological diagnostics and health education for patients with dermatological problems and skin cancer
  • Promote the concept of nurse led services supported by an evidence base for clinical practice
  • Develop, coordinate and participate in the ongoing education of dermatology patients and their carers to manage their symptoms and help them to overcome the psychological, social and physical aspects of their condition
  • Be fully conversant with the usage of all topical medications, their action, contraindications and guidelines for application
  • Act as a resource to provide clinical advice and support to staff within primary and secondary care and to liaise effectively to support continuity of care for patients.
  • Participate in monitoring clinics of patients requiring systemic medication for chronic disease management
  • Develop and participate in Minor Surgery clinics
  • Have the empathy, understanding and communication skills to break bad news
