Job Description

National Director of Nursing - National coverage - Based from home with UK travel required to various sites - £95,000 - £100,000 per annum depending on experience

My client is the leading provider of evidence based clinical services to the NHS and Police in the UK. Their healthcare provision is a 24 hour, 365 days a year service and is equivalent to that available in the community and includes long term and short term health conditions: GP and nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, sexual health, mental health and substance misuse. These are all delivered within a comprehensive clinical governance framework through the Clinical Governance panel.

They specialise in:

•Forensic Medical Services to the Police, completing over 100,000 assessments per year
•Primary Care to 7000 offenders and detainees in Prisons and Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs)
•Specialist healthcare services within Secure Training Centres (STCs)
•Operating and management of Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs)
•Provision of non-emergency Patient Transport Services

Managing the provision of nursing & paramedic services, the successful candidate will oversee the clinical provision within Health business in relation to Nursing and patient care across all clinical settings. You will be accountable for ensuring the clinical nursing provision meets all legislative and audit requirements set out within Care Quality Commission (CQC), contractual and other regulatory bodies.

As a National Director of Nursing, you be responsible for:

•Ensuring that the services my client is contracted to deliver are of good quality placing the patient at the centre of care delivery at all times; are clinically safe, up-to-date, economically sustainable, and well managed.
•Responsible for the line management of all Regional Clinical Managers
•Responsible for liaison with clients and other internal and external professional bodies.
•Providing credible and constructive advice to the Health Excom Board and wider internal leadership teams.
•Identifying areas where the business can develop and improve clinically seeking opportunities.
•Ensuring the business fulfills its obligations in relation to patient safety; safeguarding, clinical governance, regulatory and contract compliance within a cost effective and efficient way.
•Supporting the provision of a unified approach to patient care and to lead Clinical Governance & Quality programmes ensuring a quality assurance framework is embedded.
•Leading the development of up-to-date and evidence based clinical policies and procedures.
•Maintain professional nursing standards in accordance with the NMC & HPC Code of Professional Conduct.
•Agree with the Head of Quality Audit & Compliance a schedule of audits and internal inspections, ensuring actions plans are in place and implemented.
•Ensure all Health & Safety training and actions are undertaken.

Essential Skills for this National Director of Nursing role include:

•Registered nurse with NMC registration is essential.
•Proven experience of leading and providing strategic direction at a senior level.
•Experience of working within a large healthcare organisation setting at a senior level.
•Strong people and customer skills.
•Experience of delivering sound and effective business solutions.
•Experience of managing budgets.

Desirable Skills for this National Director of Nursing role include:

•Bachelor's degree or higher
•Experience and knowledge of the Health and/or Secure Health business at senior level.
•Experience of managing business contracts in commercial setting.
•Experience of NHS Commissioning process/practices
