Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) and Birmingham Women’s Hospital (BWH) have a tremendous sense of shared mission and purpose, and have enjoyed a close working relationship for decades – particularly at the clinical level. Both trusts are currently working towards becoming a single organisation and the earliest this would take place is early 2017, subject to NHS Improvement approval. The proposed integration would mean that BWH staff will be subject to TUPE.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Birmingham Women’s NHS Foundation Trust is a leading Perinatal Centre and one of the busiest Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the UK. We currently have 41 cots (12 ITU, 9 HDU and 20 SC cots). We provide excellent care for extremely preterm babies from 23 weeks’ gestation and for sick newborn babies. We have very close links with Birmingham Children’s Hospital and care for preterm babies’ pre and post-surgery for NEC with surgeons visiting us on a daily basis. We are also the Unit of choice for delivery and stabilisation of babies with congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
