Job Description


The UHB is a Smoke Free Health Board. Smoking is banned across all of the UHB sites. Staff are therefore not able to smoke in the hospital grounds or on any other UHB premises.

An exiting new position has arisen to provide nursing expertise to a specific client group with non-malignant haematological conditions. The post holder will identify and be an advocate for the needs of patients with non-malignant haematological conditions.
These conditions mainly comprise of Haemoglobinopathies including Sickle Cell disorder and Thalassaemia, Aplastic Anaemia, Paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) and Haemochromatosis .
The post holder will work between the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia office in Bute Town, Cardiff and the Clinic and Inpatient facilities of the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board providing a key supporting role for patients and their families.
For the Haemoglobinopathy aspect of this role the post holder will carry overall responsibility for the day to day management of the Haemoglobinopathy service working very closely with the Haematology senior nurse and the clinical lead for this patient group.
The post holder will be expected to be proactive in the education of other healthcare professionals about Non Malignant Haematology and will be encouraged to participate in audit, prepare research reports and updates for local and national meetings as required.
Whilst the successful candidate would work as part of a multidisciplinary team, they will have a lead role for co-coordinating patient centred care and the development of this role.

There will be a requirement for the post holder to liaise with hospital and community based services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post
