Paediatric Sister Charge Nurse HDU

Due to the Unit’s new HDU expansion an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse with previous HDU experience to work as part of a team which includes a project manager to get involved in the initial set up and development of a LTV cubicle and ongoing involvement and management as the unit is expanded and established.

Ifor ward is a busy 23 bedded paediatric unit with children from 0-18 years providing a service for children who require acute medical and surgical care. We care for children with a varied range of paediatric conditions including haematology, oncology, infectious diseases, respiratory, surgical, orthopaedic, complex care, social problems and patients with long term ventilation.

We are expanding our HDU from 2 beds to 3 beds and plan to take patients who require long term ventilation or children and young people who are ready to step down from intensive care enabling them to make the transition home.

You will have an opportunity to develop your High Dependency skills working closely with the Matron for acute Paediatrics, Nurse Consultant for Paediatrics and HDU Consultant. We have CNS’s available for expert advice in paediatric diabetes, sickle cell, allergy, asthma and oncology. We also work closely with our dedicated Discharge Coordinator Nurse to ensure our children and young people have a seamless transition home.

We also have a practice development nurse within the Unit who can offer a structured development programme aiming to develop staff and HDU competencies to maintain and enhance professional standards of practice and provide a high quality of service.
Our Unit provides several internal and external study days linked to Paediatrics.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated staff nurse who has experience working in the HDU environment and would like to further develop HDU competencies and skills. We are looking for a Sister/Charge Nurse Band 6 who is dedicated to the Child and Family advocating for high standards of care while in hospital and ensuring the child’s and family’s needs are always met .
