PR15056-Clinical Development Fellow
The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is looking to appoint a Clinical Development Fellow to be based between Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Aberdeen Maternity Hospital both of which are on the Foresterhill Campus. The successful candidate should have completed their Foundation programme and be keen to expand their skills and knowledge of the specialty.
The post is contracted for 40 hour per week - 36 hours per week plus out-of- hours commitment on average will be spent in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology contributing to the junior rota including an out of hours commitment as well as attending clinics and/or special interest sessions such as scanning and accessing high quality training in practical obstetric and gynaecological procedures. 12 hours per week on average will be given up to developmental activities.
The successful candidate will receive support from the NHS Grampian Medical Education team in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen to develop in one or more of the following areas – medical education, simulation, research, quality improvement or leadership.
An Educational and Clinical Supervisor within the department will be provided to the candidate to ensure a high quality educational experience whilst contributing to the running of a busy and challenging service. Clinical duties will include looking after inpatients and emergency admissions to both Gynaecology and Maternity, attending clinics and theatres, looking after pre and post operative patients, attending Ward rounds, working on Labour ward and attending elective caesarean section lists and looking after patients in the early pregnancy area of AMH. You will be encouraged to carry out a quality improvement project during the post.
There may also be some opportunities to attend specialist clinics such as PMB (Post Menopausal Bleeding) clinics, Maternal Medicine Antenatal Clinics and Gynaecology, Infertility and Urogynaecology Clinics as well as risk management meetings in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a busy unit with over 6000 deliveries per year. We have 23 Consultants and 25 (WTE) STs in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as GPSTs and FY1s and 2s.
There is an active postgraduate teaching programme as well as a 3 monthly PROMPT (obstetric emergency) course run in house. However, it is not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean.
